MO MOWLAM MEMORIAL UNVEILED

Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council hosted an afternoon of celebration to officially unveil John Todd's memorial mosaic, created to honour the life of the late former Redcar MP, Mo Mowlam, at Redcar's newly-refurbished boating lake.

The intricate 800 tile mosaic, set in a three-metre raised circle near the water's edge, illustrates Mo's life and interests, with her portrait as the centrepiece surrounded by images including the beach where she loved to walk, racehorses at Redcar Racecourse, where she celebrated her wedding, the steelworks, the Zetland lifeboat, clasped hands and doves to symbolise the Northern Ireland peace process and the Houses of Parliament.

John was very proud to unveil his latest mosaic, commissioned by the Friends of Redcar Cemetery (FORC). The mosaic, an 8ft by 6ft memorial to the RAF, was created to remember the sacrifices made by Redcar's air heroes.

Patron of FORC Lord Zetland, Antony Wharton, the deputy Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, Redcar Mayor Vic Jeffries and Redcar MP Ian Swales attended the service, conducted by Reverend Rachel Harrison, vicar of St Peter’s Church. View the memorial event here.
